Welcome!

A cooking scene from Old Sturbridge Village in Massachusetts

Hello and welcome to The Stillwater Society! We are a group of people from all walks of life, corners of the world far and near, ages and occupations. Though we may all be very different, we have some important things in common--- an appreciation for the simple things, for what was good in the past, and maintaining a connection to our world and each other.
Here at Stillwater, we will share many of our dovetailing interests--- including good books, good art, old fashioned recipes, passtimes and home decor.
The name of our group is derived from a concept created by artist Tasha Tudor. In her own word Tasha explained, "Stillwater connotes something very peaceful. Life without stress. Nowadays, people are so jeezled up. If they took some chamomile tea and spent more time rocking on the porch in the evening. . . they might enjoy life more."

And so, that is our mission! We hope that this blog and companion group may become a source of peace, inspiration and comfort for those of us who long for a simpler and quieter way of life. There are so many things in the world screaming for our attention, blaring at us how we should think and feel, what we should buy and consume. Stillwater will be the antithesis of that. Stillwater will be like an afternoon spent on a dear friend's porch, a warm cup of tea in hand, talking about the small pleasures of life.

We hope that you join us, whenever you can! You're welcome to join us here on the blog or chat with us on our 'vitrual porch' in our online community. It is our hope that this group enhances your pursuit for a simple and joyfilled life.

Because, as Tasha would say, we should Take Joy! The gloom of the world is but a shadow!
